    Yosemite Valley Railroad. In 1926 water of Lake McClure covered the site of a community called Barrett.

    Named on Catheys Valley (1962) 7.5' quadrangle. On Indian Gulch (1920) 15' quadrangle,
    the name applies to a canyon siuated
     1 to 2 miles farther southeast. United Stated Board of Geographic Names (1964a. p.8)
    rejected the names "Billy Ache Canyon" and "William Aches Canyon" for the feature,
    but noted that the name "Bellache: reportedly is derived from Billy Aike, or Ache,
    who was an early resident of the neighborhood)
